Every church is shaped by what it believes. At CIC, our foundation is the Bible—God's living, authoritative and unchanging Word. We believe Scripture is sufficient, containing all the essential truths necessary for understanding salvation and living the Christian life. What follows is our statement of faith: the core convictions that unite us as a church family and guide us in worship, teaching and mission. These beliefs are not simply ideas we hold—they are truths we live by, truths that transform lives and point us continually to Jesus Christ.
The Bible is the ultimate authoritative, accurate and applicable Word of God. At CIC, we believe Scripture is sufficient and contains the essential truths necessary for understanding salvation and Christian living. God's Word is our guide for faith and practice, and we submit ourselves to its teaching in all things.
We believe in the one God. He is the Creator and He exists in three distinct persons: God the Father, God the Son and God the Holy Spirit. Each is equal and eternal. The Trinity is not three gods, but one God in perfect unity—Father, Son and Spirit working together in love, purpose and power.
We believe that Jesus Christ is the Son of God, and in His incarnation, without altering His divine nature or surrendering any of the divine attributes,
He took on the form of man yet remained sinless.
He was conceived by the Holy Spirit in the womb of the virgin Mary. We believe that sin has separated us from God. Through salvation, we are reunified with God by His grace alone. We believe that Jesus Christ, as fully man and fully God, is the only one who can reconcile us to God.
We believe that Jesus Christ lived an exemplary life—sinless and without blemish.
He died on the cross in our place and rose again. He is victorious.
We believe in the imperative and continued act of repentance from sin.
We believe in a broken humanity and that only through Jesus Christ are we redeemed.
The Holy Spirit is alive and active. We believe that He is working in us and through us.
We believe in the reoccurrence of continued filling of the Holy Spirit throughout the Christian life. Through the filling of the Holy Spirit, we are enabled to walk in God's righteousness and empowered to use spiritual gifts given to us by God.
The Spirit convicts, comforts, teaches and equips believers for the work God has called them to do.
We believe in the separate acts of baptism by water immersion and the baptism of the Holy Spirit. Both baptisms can occur simultaneously and separately.
Water baptism is an outward declaration of an inward faith, symbolising our identification with Christ's death, burial and resurrection.
The baptism of the Holy Spirit empowers believers for service and witness, enabling us to live boldly for God's glory.
We believe in the reality of heaven and hell. Both are destinations for humanity determined by our response to our Lord Jesus Christ.
Heaven is the eternal home of all who have placed their faith in Jesus.
Hell is the eternal separation from God for those who reject Him. These realities compel us to share the gospel with urgency and love, that all might come to know the hope found in Christ.
We believe God has equipped each member of His Church to serve others. Through God, we can serve and achieve His purpose for our lives, which is to glorify Him and to serve the community in which we are placed.
The church is not a building or an institution—it is the Body of Christ, made up of believers called to use their gifts in humble service to one another and the world around them.
We believe that God's plans are good and that He is sovereign over all things. We believe that God uses success, providence, healing and difficulty in our lives for His glory and good.
Through God's plans, we are enabled to live purposeful lives and to help others.
Even when we do not understand our circumstances, we trust that God is at work, weaving all things together for His purposes and our ultimate good.
We believe that Jesus Christ will come again as He has promised to receive His church, which is His Body.
We believe that the Lord Jesus Christ is the One through whom God will judge all mankind.
We live with expectant hope, knowing that Christ's return will bring the fulfilment of God's redemptive plan. Until that day, we are called to remain faithful, watchful and devoted to the mission He has given us.
